Lindsay successfully switches from fitness to bodybuilding and places second in her first two national competitions. In August of 2002, Lindsay took the overall at the Georgia Coastal to re-qualify to compete as a bodybuilder in the year of 2003. Lindsay placed second at the 2003 USAs held on July 25th after only 4 weeks of preparation. She decided to try to compete as a bodybuilder because she was getting flown into Vegas to do a photo shoot with Muscle Elegance. Denise Masino told her that she wanted her look to be leaner and harder, therefore, Lindsay figured since she had to diet and train intensely for that four week period, she should make the most of it and also compete while she was there. This was her first attempt as a bodybuilder at the national level. She came in as a stunning and very feminine light weight. She had great stage presence and her prejudging and finals routines were brilliantly choreographed. She already looked like a pro after only four weeks of preparation.

Unfortunately, three weeks out from the competition, she fractured her left foot while practicing an explosive move in her routine. She could not walk or practice her routine until three days out from the competition. She was so stressed out about hitting her routine, because all she could do was mental imagery and light movements to practice. At the same time, she had to back off of any cardio involving standing or walking. Therefore, she could only ride the bike the last three weeks of her training protocol. This through off her entire diet and training program. Every day she was hoping her foot would get better, but it actually got worse. By the time she got to Miami, she had to push through the pain to make sure she could land her routine. She was icing her foot three time a day in between posing and practicing. She had to wrap her foot on stage in order to walk on it and make it through her routine without re-injuring it.
Lindsay explained, " When I was on stage during my final's routine, I could not feel a thing. I prayed to god for weeks to help me through it. I had so much adrenaline flowing through me that every move felt easy and painless. It was an incredible feeling to know that I landed my routine after barely being able to practice it. I felt very blessed and was very excited about my entire performance that day Lindsay ended up placing second out of 26 competitors and in front of several well known veterans. She expressed, "I wanted to make huge impact at the Nationals by showing the fans that muscle and femininity do mix. I didn't care where I placed as long as I knew that I impacted female bodybuilding just a bit that day. I truly believe that I pushed female bodybuilding to a new level in the appearance and performance categories. I feel as though bodybuilders are artists carving away at their physiques, but we are also artists in the way we perform while on stage. I wanted to show everyone that I could make female bodybuilding exciting, feminine, and sexy. I believe I did that, because I had several competitors ask me to choreograph their routines, and I received so much positive feedback from the press, judges, and fans." It was noted by several writers for the sport that her routine at the Nationals was one of the best bodybuilding routines hey had ever experienced. She really got the crowd's attention. People could not get over how feminine she appeared even with the amount of muscle she displayed. Her attitude was sexy, and her routine was packed with challenging strength and flexibility moves. She looked like she was loving the fact that she was shocking the crowd with her unique routine.
Lindsay attributes her unique bodybuilding routines to her background in choreographing break dance and hip hop routines in junior high and high school, as well as the several years of choreographing her fitness routines for competition. She had learned some tumbling and gymnastics in her early childhood, but most of her moves are self taught. |
