Nutrition 101

Here are my recommendations for minor lifestyle adjustments to help one lose fat while sparing muscle:

1) Wake up, drink 8 oz. of water.

2) Try to ride the bike or walk for 30 minutes at a moderate pace (cardio) - this helps promote fat burning and raises your metabolism. Do this 3 to 6 times per week, work your way up to 6 times a week for best results.

Proteins are composed of 22 known amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks of the human body. More than 50% of the dry weight of animals is comprised of protein. VITAMINS

Vitamins are organic food substances found only in living things such as supplements, plants and animals. With very few exceptions, the body cannot manufacture these vitamins itself. Vitamins are essential to the normal functioning of our bodies. They are necessary for our growth, vitality, and general well being. They combat free radicals that cause deterioration of skin and muscle. Incorporating the right amount of vitamins in a healthy meal plan promotes an improved immune system, faster healing, healthier skin, hair and nails and elevated senses of well being.

AMINO ACIDS

Protein is made of strands of amino acids. Amino acids are the "Building Blocks" of the body. There are eight essential aminos which means they cannot be manufactured by the body. The rest are non-essential and can be manufactured by the body from the other essential aminos. Amino acids build cells, repair tissue, form antibodies, build RNA and DNA, and carry oxygen throughout the body. One can supplement the diet with protein powders and/or free form amino acids. The difference between free form amino acids and regular protein powders is that free form amino acids are the most broken down form of protein. They are digested more easily and have fewer impurities. Protein powders have fillers, sweeteners, dyes and extra carbohydrates which can make you feel bloated. I prefer a liquid amino acid complex. I like to split the dosage to 2-3 times a day.
